The unique sensory experience created by the tactile nature of ceramics provides a calming and grounding activity for children and young people, in particular those with sensory seeking needs. Moulding clay into a shape can be therapeutic, as it allows the mind to focus solely on manipulating the material, and it can also give a sense of achievement, once the clay has been sculpted into the desired shape.
As well as having many years of teaching experience, our wonderful pottery tutor Helen has a first class honours degree in Fine Arts Sculpture and has been involved in numerous high profile community arts projects. Helen is a natural at teaching children and young people with SEND and her quiet and private studio has lots of natural day light. Our pottery programmes and sessions take place in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire.
